Keys to a Great Resume

Resume writing is daunting, we know that. But there are some things you can do to make your resume better right now. Today. At Astra, we see a lot of resumes, and we are aware of what our hiring managers want to see on resumes. We’d like to offer some tips to help your resume shine.

1. Duties and Achievements. Don’t just list what you did from day-to-day at a job, but list your actual achievements. Use quantifiable examples to show how you increased productivity or profits. Give examples of your leadership abilities and show that you can think critically about problems.

2. Education. If you don’t have a degree, put your education at the bottom of your resume. In fact, unless you hold multiple degrees and certifications, you may still want to consider putting education at the bottom. Employers want to see your skills and experience. Unless the job you’re applying for specifically requires post-graduate degrees, consider putting it on the bottom.

3. Skills. Highlight them in an easy-to-understand way. Use a table or chart. If you have many skills relating to the job, put that skills list right near the job. If you feel your experience is more valuable, put the skill list under your experience.

4. Be flexible. Tailor your resume to the job description at hand. Use keywords that are listed in the job description so recruiters will catch them easily. Keep a working copy of your resume that you can edit for each job application. Even move sections around if you feel one employer is looking for experience more than skills, or vice versa.
